“Stay at home, stay at home” – Mayor Flaggs

In an exclusive interview with the Vicksburg Daily News, Mayor George Flaggs is advising everyone to “Stay at home, stay at home. Everything is closed. Please stay at home for at least another 12 to 24 hours. It’s icy over here, it’s slick.”
The extraordinary weather event that has frozen Warren County has stressed resources and made travel all but impossible. “The curfew is until 12 o’clock. I will lift it at 12 o’clock. But please, use extremely careful out here” emphasized Mayor Flaggs. “People need baby milk. If Kroger opens up I am going to get that baby some milk. But I am telling you, do not try it.”
Mayor Flaggs went on to praise city workers, law enforcement and rescue workers “The Sheriff has done a phenomenal job having his deputies out. Chief Moore has been out all day. His officers have been out. The fire department has done a phenomenal job. We’re doing as best we can out here.”
“Stay safe, stay in for at least another 12 to 24 hours” a passionate Flaggs pleaded to the readers of the Vicksburg Daily News.
The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for Warren County until Wednesday at noon. Temperatures will remain below freezing until Wednesday afternoon. While there is no more precipitation forecast until temperatures get above 40 on Wednesday, the already large amount of ice and snow on the ground will continue to paralyze the community.
Wednesday night’s forecast includes the possibility of 1 to 2 inches of rain and a thunderstorm.
An incident was noted on Monday where a rescue vehicle was blocked in by private vehicles that had lost control in the ice and snow. The rescue vehicle had to cancel its response and was unable to assist in the medical emergency due to being blocked in by stranded vehicles.
If you do not have to go out, do not go out.
