Steele Bayou gates closed once again
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers once again closed the gates Tuesday at the Steele Bayou. The rising Mississippi River caused the closure along with closure of the gates on the Little Sunflower structure to the north.
The Mississippi River is projected to crest Sunday, June 7, at 44.5 feet.
The Yazoo Backwater is at 91 feet. There is little significant rainfall in the current forecasts.
It is likely that the gates will remain closed for approximately 14 days until the river gets back near 43 feet on the Vicksburg gauge. It is at 43.79 feet as of 7 p.m. Tuesday and rising.
