Drew Smith, Chief of Water Management for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has confirmed that the gates at Steele Bayou are being reopened today.

The gates were closed Feb. 27 due to flood conditions.

Currently, the backwater gauges indicate 96.21 on the river side and 96.23 on the land side.

As the river continues to fall, flow through the gates will be increased.
