On Dec. 24, 2018, Paul Steward murdered his wife, Kacey Miles, at 124 Hillside Circle. According to investigators, Miles had threatened Steward with a divorce. An altercation ensued, and though Steward claims he doesn’t remember the exact series of events, his wife was strangled with Steward’s belt. He then took her body to a location on Funches Road and buried her.

The following day, Christmas, Miles’ sister called the Vicksburg Police Department and reported her sister missing. After several interviews by VPD investigators, on Dec. 28 Steward led officers to the location on Funches Road where he had buried Miles body in a shallow grave.

Friday, June 5, 2020, Warren County District Attorney Ricky Smith and Assistant DA Michael Warren presented the facts to Circuit Court Judge James Chaney Jr.

Paul Steward entered a guilty plea, and Chaney sentenced him to life in prison.
