Warren County Judge Marcie Southerland sentenced Walter Stewart to the maximum possible sentence Monday in an animal cruelty case.

The charge stemmed from an incident caught on video May 26 where Stewart can be seen slamming a dog into the hood of a pickup truck. At the time of his arrest, Warren County deputies also charged him with domestic violence.

On the animal cruelty charge, Southerland sentenced Stewart to six months in the Warren County Jail, a $2,500 fine plus state assessments, $400.00 restitution to Warren County for a court appointed attorney and 80 hours of community service.

County Prosecutor Ken Harper requested that the domestic violence charge be remanded to the file, which means it will be sent back to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office for reconsideration and will likely be dismissed.
