Still undefeated: VHS grabbed a 73-64 win over WC

Vicksburg High School boy’s basketball team improved to 10-0 after defeating Warren Central 73-64 on Saturday.
“The win feels good we just gotta work a little harder on defense but I think that once these football guys get use to every it’ll all be great,” VHS Head Coach Kelvin Carter said.
The Gators took a 15-14 first quarter lead after getting shots from Davian Williams and Tyler Henderson while Lazaveon Sylvester and Garrett Fisher kept WC close early on in the game.
Both teams went back and forth in the second quarter but VHS eventually took the 31-27 lead before halftime as Malik Franklin knocked down some shots along with Henderson, Jalen Banks, and Kealon Bass who all hit 3-pointers.
Coming out of halftime, Bass hit a nice shot while Franklin put a nasty move on a defender to get on the board. Roosevelt Harris was able to help keep WC alive by hitting a few free throws along with a couple of layups. Bass knocked down a 3-pointer just before the end of the third to give VHS a 50-41 lead.
Sylvester took control of things for the Vikings in the final quarter by getting big inside the paint but Markel Derby came out of nowhere and hit a few baskets for VHS as they took home the win.
Williams led VHS with 19 points in the win followed by Franklin who put up 18. Henderson also scored eight points.
“We were too confident at first but we shook back in the second half but I gotta do better at getting to the rack,” Franklin said.
Sylvester led WC with 23 points while Gaylon Turner added 10. Padre Gray Jr. scored nine points while Harris finished with eight.
