Storms Are Approaching

Published

on

The last thing the South Delta needs is more rain.

But the current forecast says we have a 90 percent chance of rain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  It might rain a bit on Wednesday, too.

The National Weather Service in Jackson says we have a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday morning into the evening with maybe up to half an inch of rain.  Thursday we have an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with high temperatures near 83 degrees, and south southeast wind from 5 to 10 mph. Thursday night’s rainfall could increase to one or two inches. Rain is likely Friday and maybe even into Saturday under the current forecast.

Any rain that falls into the South Delta will be trapped by the gates at Steele Bayou and increase the number of acres currently covered by the flooding.  With the highest projection of up to four inches of rain in that area, residents should prepare for the water to rise back up to 98.5 feet in the Backwater at Steele Bayou.
