Structure fire on Speed Street engulfs home in flames
At 9:46 a.m. a structure fire in the 1000 block of Speed Street was reported to 911. When firefighters arrived the home was completely engulfed in flames.
Two women were in the residence at the time of the fire. One woman had mobility issues and was assisted by a neighbor, Ceola Parker and the VPD’s Tommy Curtis.
Neighbor Parker saw the flames and went into the house, getting both women out alive. Curtis assisted with getting the second woman out.
Multiple units from Vicksburg Fire Department and Warren County Fire Department arrived to quench the flames. Multiple water lines were ran to battle the blaze.
Plumes of smoke covered the neighborhood as the fire was doused.
Fire Chief Craig Danczyk was in command at the scene. Ladder 14, Engine 6, Engine 7, Rescue, FireMedic 40, FD2 and FD3, Battalion 1, Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs, EMA 1 John Elfer and EMA 2 Tracy Porter along with several Vicksburg Police were present.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
