VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – Students at Redwood elementary school took part in their third annual “Redwood Farm Day”.

Darlene Birdsong, cafeteria manager, says it’s an event where they get vendors to come in for students to look at animals along with different types of fruits and vegetables. During the event, students were able to participate in the fastest blueberry eating contest.

At the time of the interview, A fourth grader led the competition with the fastest time of eight seconds. School leaders also gave students the opportunity to taste strawberries.

Birdsong tell us the main focus is “to give students a feel of the farm life who haven’t experienced it before”.

Warren county soil and water conservation along with “Sammy the soil” and the Mississippi State Extension Office was present to assist with the annual event.
