The Sun Belt Conference championship football game has now been canceled due to a high rate of positive COVID-19 tests among Coastal Carolina football players.

“We are very disappointed that the championship game cannot be played, but we are so proud of all of the players and staff members and their hard work during this truly challenging season,” said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill in a statement. “We will honor both teams as 2020 Sun Belt Conference Co-Champions.”

No.12 Coastal Carolina was set to play No.19 University of Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday before the cancellation. Although UL-Lafayette coach Billy Napier wanted to have the game rescheduled, the Sun Belt Conference decided the best thing to do was cancel it.
