Suspect deceased after opening fire at Rankin County deputies

Rankin County deputies were dispatched for a medical call earlier on Saturday to Garrett Road in Florence.

A caller from the scene indicated to law enforcement, before arriving on scene, that the call was a domestic disturbance call.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found the suspect, Shannon Trevor Mckinley, had a felony warrant for domestic violence.

Mckinley took shelter in the attic of the residence and refused to comply with commands to exit.

Eventually, Mckinley attempted to flee deputies after climbing down.  During the attempt, he brandished a handgun and opened fire at the deputies. Deputies returned fire, striking him. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was called to the scene and is investigating the incident.
