A Vicksburg police officer attempted to stop a dark blue Honda on westbound Clay Street this afternoon when the vehicle fled.

The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and ran south with the car still in motion. He is described as a black male, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a blue and orange jumpsuit. The Honda crashed into a fire hydrant at Vanderbilt and Clay after taking out a stop sign and a street sign.

The street sign was hit with enough force to send it flying 50 feet.

Officers were unable to immediately locate the individual but have secured the vehicle he was in. They recovered a weapon believed to be a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun.

Officers unload and inspect the handgun recovered from the scene.
