Six people were shot dead in Mississippi on Friday near the Tennessee state line, reports the Associated Press.

According to a report by the AP, the killings took place in Arkabulta, a small rural town in northern Mississippi.

A suspect has been taken into custody, according to the report.  The AP also reported that Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves believes the suspect acted alone.

“At this time, we believe he acted alone,” Reeves stated. “His motive is not yet known.”

The report goes on to state that an elementary school and a high school in Coldwater were on lockdown while authorities were looking for the suspect.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting Tate County and state authorities.
