Suspected human remains found near Steele Bayou
Early Monday morning, possible human remains were reported in an area near Steele Bayou.
At around 7:45 a.m., a hunter stumbled across a suspicious item believed to have been attached to human remains.
Initially, the call came into Warren County. Warren County authorities responded and determined the item in question was just over the county line and alerted Issaquena County authorities.
The Issaquena County coroner retrieved the item and sent it to the crime lab to be examined.
Issaquena County authorities have taken the lead on the investigation with assistance from Warren County. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is also assisting.
Further details concerning the investigation have not been disclosed. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace only offered the item seems to have been there for a long period of time.
“We will await crime lab analysis, but it does appear the item has been there for some time,” said Sheriff Pace.
Vicksburg Daily News reached out to Issaquena County Sheriff’s Department but has not received a call back at the time of this reporting.
