The Board of Mayor and Alderman met Monday and approved the hire of Graham County Land Co., based in Robbinsville, N.C., to clear storm debris still remaining from the tornadic activity in early May that brought down several large trees and countless limbs and branches around the city and county.

Trees were down all over the county following the tornado that moved through Warren County on May 4 (Submitted by VDN Reader)

Bids ranged from $36 per cubic yard to $10.80 per cubic yard amongst the other bidders on the project.  Graham County Land Co. will charge the City of Vicksburg $9.25 per cubic yard of debris collected, and the company has been given a 30-day deadline to complete the work. City officials did not provide an estimated total cost of the project, which is dependant on the volume of debris that is collected.

If limbs and debris on your property are not already waiting curbside, now is the time to get all the storm remnants to the street. The first collections began Thursday and will continue over the next few weeks.

The company will not be collecting trash or any items other than storm debris, e.g. trees and limbs.
