Taylor named as VDN’s Boy’s Basketball Player of the Year
After leading becoming Warren County’s lead scorer in the 2021 and 2022 basketball seasons, Porter’s Chapel Academy’s Chris Taylor has been named as Vicksburg Daily News Boy’s Basketball Player of the Year.
Averaging 20 points per game this season, Taylor led PCA to their best season in nearly ten years while scoring over 1,000 points in his high school career, helping the Eagles blow out most of their competition.
“I felt my last season went great went great we went all the way to state and that’s only been done once by another PCA team,” Taylor said. “Making it to state and the playoffs was just one of the biggest moments in my career.”
Taylor’s playing time at PCA was filled with multiple double digit performances. His best numbers were against Cathedral in his junior year where he dropped 46 points.
Although Taylor was the teams key player, he received plenty of help from his teammates who pitched in major points, along with great defensive plays which contributed to wins.
“I felt like my teammates played really well and they stepped into big roles and they didn’t complain so it came out good,” Taylor said.
Behind all of the 30 plus point performances in front of big crowds, Taylor knew that he wouldn’t be the stellar athlete he is today without his big support system.
“First I want to thank God because without him nothing is possible.” I want to thank my mom for being my number one supporter, she made sacrifices and did a lot of behind the scenes work to make it possible for me to transfer. I also want to thank my brothers Tony and Len for being so hard on me growing up and I want to thank my family, friends and my coaches for all the support over the years.”
“Last I want to thank my girlfriend for pushing me and not letting me give up when I wanted to quit,” Taylor said.
Taylor is the third individual to win this award and waits to see what his next move will be for his basketball career.
“I didn’t really see this coming but I definitely got the recognition that I wanted and I’ve been speaking to a few colleges and I plan on continuing to pursue my dreams.”
