Teacher escorted off campus for carrying a gun

A Laurel High School teacher was escorted off campus Nov. 18 for having a gun in his possession.
Authorities are attempting to determine whether teacher Brian Vogue broke any laws, the Laurel Leader Call reports.
“[The teacher] was found to be in possession of a firearm and asked to leave campus,” school district spokeswoman Lacey Walters Slay said in an emailed statement. “It is currently under review as to whether there was a violation of state law, and what recourse, if any, the school district has in this situation according to current policy, code and statute.”
Carrying a concealed weapon onto school property is generally illegal in Mississippi; however, enhanced permit owners are exempt. The enhanced permit requires a firearms training course offered by an instructor certified by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
Vogue has an enhanced concealed carry permit, Slay said.
