Due to projected flooding into Vicksburg, Mississippi the Vicksburg Southern Railroad is planning to suspended rail operation as of May 4. Already saturated northern tributaries are experiencing additional swelling from the recent heavy rains causing the Mississippi River to rise. In preparation for the increased flow of water, the City of Vicksburg will close its flood gates. As a result of the gates being closed, the Vicksburg Southern Railroad will take a temporary outage for an estimated three to four weeks.
