Mississippi State University women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer is leaving for the University of Texas.

The stunning news on Sunday came via Texas’ Director of Athletics Chris Del Conte announcing it via Twitter, as Schaefer, his wife Holly, daughter Blair and son Logan put up the “Hook ’em Horns” sign symbolizing the University of Texas.

The Lady Bulldogs had never been past the Sweet 16 until Schaefer’s arrival in 2012 , and plenty of fans credited him for MSU’s success over the years. He won the SEC Coach of the Year award three times and was the National Coach of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Shaefer is leaving a legacy behind at MSU where he coached many great athletes such as Victoria Vivans, Teaira McCowan and Anriel Howard.
