Thompson named as the new head boy’s basketball coach at Choctaw Central High School

Fayette native Delvin Thompson has been hired as the next head basketball coach at Choctaw Central High School.
Thompson was recently the head coach and athletics director at Jefferson County High School, where he was once a star basketball player who led the Tigers to a South State Championship. He has coached at JCHS since 2020 before earning his new position with the Warriors.
At JCHS, the Tigers went from winning one game in the year prior to Thompson’s arrival to picking up multiple wins and competing with much larger schools.
Thompson brings many years of experience to the Warriors’ program as he has led St. Aloysius and JCHS, in addition to serving as an assistant coach at Alcorn, where he contributed to the Braves’ 29 wins in two seasons. This included an 18-14 record during the 2016-17 season, which concluded with a second-place finish in the regular season and a run to the finals of the SWAC Championship.
Currently, Thompson is coaching the Warriors in summer basketball. They have secured victories over Madison Central, Madison St. Joe, D’Iberville and Port Gibson, resulting in a 5-2 record.
