Three juveniles have been taken into custody after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle, prompting a manhunt by local authorities on and around Belva Drive, off of U.S. 61 South.

The trio fled when a resident spotted their 2007 Chevrolet Yukon that was stolen earlier this week and alerted police. VPD Officer Leonce Young located the vehicle on Belva Drive and a brief chase ensued just after 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Yukon barreled into the Warrenton Independent Baptist Church parking lot, where they struck the church van, ran down the fence and crashed into a tree before scattering in the woods on foot. Vicksburg Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Office initiated a manhunt in the area, where one of the juveniles was taken into custody along with two other suspects at large.

Their escape was short-lived, though, as officers brought the pair into custody around 5:30 p.m. on Alcorn Drive in Vicksburg.

Police Chief Milton Moore says all three are now in custody at the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center until they face a judge in Warren County Youth Court early next week.
