Three shot at Circle K early Sunday morning
An altercation at a Circle K convenience store escalated into a shooting that injured three people, authorities say.
Just after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, a call came into Vicksburg Warren 911 of a person at Merit Health River Region who had been shot.
Shortly thereafter, radio traffic indicated that three women had been shot and were being treated in the emergency room at the hospital.
The initial investigation indicated a fight at the Circle K on North Frontage at Indiana had escalated into a shooting where three women were struck by bullets. Units with the VPD cordoned off the area at Circle K where a shoe and blood could be clearly seen.
Numerous VPD and Sheriff’s Department units, at least 10, were at Merit Health River Region. Family members of the assailants and victims gathered at River Region and were confrontational. A fight was broken up at the hospital but no one was detained.
Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones offered that none of the gunshots were life-threatening. Investigators are working on the case, though the victims have been uncooperative with authorities. Management at Circle K has yet to provide surveillance footage to the police as of the time of this writing, though it will likely be a key piece of evidence in this investigation.
