Thursday night stab victim identified, two remain in custody

Vicksburg Police Department has identified the Vicksburg woman who died as a result of stab wounds in Thursday night’s knife incident as Lois Gaskin, 45. Gaskin was part of an ongoing dispute with another person at Waltersville Estates which escalated into a physical disturbance.

At about 11:25 p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to King Drive.  Moments later, several callers reported there was a large fight going on between building 130 and building 30. A few minutes later another call was received, stating someone had been stabbed in the altercation.

Gaskin was transported by private vehicle to Merit Health River Region emergency room and was pronounced dead around 1 a.m., Friday.

Police at the scene discovered another woman had also been stabbed in the fight. She was treated at the scene by FireMedic 40 and transported to the hospital. Her wounds were not believed to have been life-threatening. A third person, a man, was also treated by FireMedic 40 for a cut on his left arm. He was treated at the scene.

Police took two individuals believed to be involved in the altercation into custody, including the man who was treated at the scene. Each are being held in connection to the investigation.

The names of the suspects have yet to be released.
