The Vicksburg Fire Department was dispatched at 8:55 p.m. Thursday night to a 2-story residential structure fire at 1617 Monroe St.

Smoke was showing upon firefighters’ arrival and flames were coming from the attic space. The Vicksburg Convalescent Home is located next door but was not threatened.

According to Chief Craig Dancyck “Crews did an outstanding job preventing further fire spread and potentially a ‘total loss’ scenario. The home was built in 1873.“

BC1 (Assistant Chief Tim Love), Platform 1, Engine 6, Engine 7, Rescue, FM40 and FD1 responded to the incident and is under investigation by Vicksburg Fire Department Fire Investigator Nathaniel Williams.
