Less than a month after playing his last high school football game, Warren Central’s TJ Thompson has been named as the Vicksburg Daily News Offensive Player of the Year.

Thompson led the Vikings in rushing yards during the 2021 season with 1,055 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground along with catching two more TDs.

Midway through the season, Thompson and the Vikings were faced with a must-win situation. He then helped the team on a four game winning streak  to reach the playoffs which became one of his most memorable moments on the field.

“After we loss our first three district games, we knew that another loss meant that we wouldn’t make the playoffs, Thompson said. “It was just about offense, defense, and special teams coming together as a team and having a mindset that we can’t be beat.”

With the help of Thompson, WC went on make the playoffs as he continued dominating on the ground especially against Petal where he had four rushing touchdowns.

Thompson is now the third individual to win this award and he was more than grateful for being selected.

“I feel grateful for about winning this award,” Thompson said. I feel like all the hard work I put in through the off-season has paid off and I know that none of this wouldn’t be possible without my coaches and offensive line.”

Throughout his hard work and being a team player, Thompson had a big support system who thanked for sticking by him.

“I would to thank God first and foremost, without him none of this would be possible,” Thompson said. “I would like to thank my supporting family that’s been through thick and thin with me, especially my grandparents that always kept me motivated and kept me grounded.”

Thompson has not publicly announced his future plans yet but VDN will keep everyone updated on his upcoming success.
