Former Porter’s Chapel Academy head football coach JJ Plummer, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 recently, finished his first season as head coach of Richland High School with his father by his side.

Plummer started his debut season at Richland with a 26-13 victory over St. Andrews.  He coached for St. Andrews for five seasons before going to Richland.

Plummer’s father, Johnny Plummer, has helped his son coach for the last 22 seasons as his defensive coordinator. Johnny Plummer has coached at Delta State,  Northeast Community College and several high schools in Mississippi over the past 55 years.

Like his dad, JJ Plummer has had success at several high schools including Porter’s Chapel, Lamar School, Pontotoc, St. Andrews and Terry.

JJ Plummer had been hospitalized with COVID-19 coronavirus, but is now recovering. People from his community have been showing their support on his Facebook page including folks from Vicksburg.

Plummer is known for his ability to turn a struggling team around to become successful. After he is feeling better, fans expect him to return to the gridiron.
