Tommie Lee Baker, 1941 – 2022

Tommie Lee Baker passed away on Sep. 26, at Merit Health River Region.  She was 81.

Tommie was born in Vicksburg, MS on Jan. 12, 1941, the daughter of Clarence Edwards (Shorty) Tompkins and Nancy Bell Floyd Tompkins. She weighed only 2 pounds at birth and wore handkerchiefs as diapers and her crib was a dresser drawer.  She worked for the Coca-Cola plant before her children were born and then chose to become a homemaker.  She loved her grandkids and spent every chance she could with her great-grand kids.  Her family meant everything to her.  She was baptized at Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Edward (Peewee) Tompkins, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Ann Baker Alexander (Kelly) and son Elvis Mackey (Buster) Baker of Vicksburg, MS, grandchildren Kristal Leigh Alexander-Lee (Blaine) of Tallulah, LA, Kevin Thomas Alexander (Lexie) of Vicksburg, MS, and Justin Mackey Baker of Orlando, FL, great-grandchildren James Benton Lee, John Barrett Lee and Bellamy Anne Lee of Tallulah, LA and Kaylee Ann Doyle, Avery Reese Alexander and Camdon Wade Alexander of Vicksburg, MS, and nephew and niece Paul Edward Tompkins and Lisa Danette Tompkins Howe.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Cedar Hill Cemetery officiated by Robert Andrews.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jody Tingle, Jimbo Hilbun, Keith Alexander, T. C. Alexander, Paul Rachel and James Edwards, Jr.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
