Tourism numbers up 15% over last year

Tourism is booming again in Vicksburg.

Hospitality Tax Revenues collected an impressive $112,421.31 in the month of November, a 15.3% increase over 2020 and 7.8% over 2019 – just before COVID-19 changed everything.

Hotel revenues are up nearly 18% and hotel occupancy is up 7% according to numbers compiled by Laura Beth Strickland, Executive Director of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. It normally takes the State of Mississippi 90 days to report the numbers back to the VCVB. VCVB

Numerous events in Vicksburg are funded at least in part by the VCVB such as The Civil War Show, Run Through History, Vicksburg Second Saturday, and many other events. The emphasis is to take the tax revenue generated by tourism and invest it back into the community for even more events that will in turn drive tourists to Vicksburg.
