Traffic stop leads to discovery of ecstasy and firearm

An Edwards man is in custody after a traffic stop revealed him in possession of drugs and a firearm.

On May 15, 2022 shortly before 1 a.m., Vicksburg Police conducted a traffic stop of a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban on Clay Street. The Operator of the vehicle was detained after it was determined by the officer that the subject provided false information.

An initial search was conducted and revealed contraband in the form of narcotics/paraphernalia. Following a further search for contraband, officers recovered multi-colored pills, which fieldtested for ecstasy. Police and Investigators recovered approximately91 dosage units of suspected ecstasy as well as a firearm from the Suburban.

The operator of the vehicle, Sherman Walton of Edwards, Mississippi, was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
