Travelers Rest Christian Academy receives $30,000 in funding
On Monday, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved $30,000 in funding to Travelers Rest Christian Academy.
Travelers Rest will provide afterschool reading and math programs for K – fourth-grade.
Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. stated the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds were designed and set down for organizations within the community.
Flaggs went on to state over $200,000 was spent on United Way to aid with their reading program which has gotten national recognition for its help to young students.
“If you don’t have an educated workforce, better than you’ve got today, in 10-20 years from now you won’t even have Vicksburg,” said Flaggs.
The approval will grant $20,000 in funding in addition to the $10,000 which was already budgeted for this year.
A total of $10,000 will be awarded in 2023 and 2024 with proof of matching funds by the academy.
