Two arrested for Polk Street shooting

Two people have been arrested for a shooting on Polk Street in Vicksburg on Wednesday.
Chief Penny Jones confirmed two adults were arrested for the shooting on Polk Street Wednesday afternoon and stated the shooting was in relation to the Aug. 4 shooting at an event center located at Washington and Speed streets. They are expected in court on Friday.
At about 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 9, at least five shots rang out from a driveway in the 1100 block of Polk where three people were fleeing as they shot up toward Drummond. No one was injured in the shooting but a home at the corner of Drummond and Polk was struck at least twice by stray bullets. Damage was noted to the window and overhang. One person was in the home when the shooting occurred.
Because of the close proximity to Vicksburg High School, active shooter protocols were enforced at the school. Students were ordered off the bus and back into the school. Football players were practicing on the field a short distance from the shooting location and were ordered to lie down on the field and were escorted into the clubhouse once the shooting stopped.
