Two arrested after narcotics and gun found in vehicle

Two Hermanville men are in custody after a traffic stop on Warrenton Road revealed a quantity of marijuana and a handgun.

According to the Vicksburg Police Department, Joseph Charles Banks, 33, and Jamario Dushaw Shorter, 28, were stopped in the 1000 block of Warrenton Road at 2:31 a.m. on Sunday. Officers observed the vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Impala, swerving and with improper equipment.

Officers noticed the smell of marijuana as they approached the car and searched the vehicle. The search uncovered nearly 80 grams of marijuana and a handgun.

Banks was charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Shorter was charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Each are held without bond until their appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
