Two city employees recognized for milestones at Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meeting
The City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen recognized two long-term employees at its meeting on Monday.
Mayor George Flaggs recognized Derrick Holt, a captain for the Vicksburg Fire Department, for 25 years of service. Dewayne Smith, an officer for the Vicksburg Police Department, was recognized for his 25 years of service.
The board meeting also included some new hires filling in vacancies for key roles. Mayor Flaggs swore Attorney Lee Thames, Jr. into office Monday as the new assistant city attorney/prosecutor. When speaking on Thames, Flaggs stated he had “no reservation in recommending [Thames]” for this key position.
Several Vicksburg businesses came before the board seeking approval on various resolutions, including the approval of the Run Baby Run 5K marathon hosted by The Center for Pregnancy Choices. The board approved this event, and the marathon will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, beginning at 8:00 am.
Other key moments of the meeting included the city board’s $250 sponsorship of the P.D. Jones Foundation for the upcoming “Moviefest on the River.” The festival will be held at Washington Street Park on May 4, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
