Two VHS Gators receiving multiple scholarship offers as they prepare for their senior season
Vicksburg High School football players Marvin Martin and Shardez Taylor are both moving up on the college prospect list. They have gained lots of attention in their junior seasons, which has led them both to get multiple offers from nearby colleges.
Martin plays strong safety, where he is known for his aggressiveness in blitzing the quarterback and stopping the running back in the backfield. He was a key player to the Gators defense last season, especially in the final game against Holmes County where he came up with a huge sack to help VHS win.
Martin announced on Facebook that he has received offers from Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, University of Louisiana Monroe and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He still has one more year to shine as a Gator before making his decision known.
Taylor is an offensive lineman at VHS, where he is in charge of keeping the pressure off of quarterback Shakori Regan. Taylor showed off his true skills this past season where he laid out out many of his defenders who attempted to get in the Gator’s backfield.
Recently, Taylor announced on Facebook that he has received offers from Alcorn, Jackson State and South Alabama. Taylor is no stranger to hard work as he has worked closely with Vicksburg’s offensive lineman coach Andre Bennett.
Taylor, who is also a junior, has one more season to play with the Gators and to show college scouts that he can play on the next level.
Both players are preparing for their senior season, but it will be under a new head coach. Todd McDaniel was recently hired at VHS, while Taylor and Martin played most of their years under former head coach Tim Hughes.
