Two sisters, Jordan and Jayln Davis, are both cheering together at Alcorn State University.

Jordan is a captain and senior on the team while Jayln is just a few months out of high school and a freshman on the squad.

Jordan’s road to ASU:

Since elementary school, Jordan has been cheering for little league teams.

“Cheering has always been apart of my life and it’s a place where I can release all of my energy,” Jordan said.

Jordan had her eyes set on Alcorn State University after graduating from VHS in 2019.

“My family went to Alcorn and everyone is so welcoming and I feel very comfortable here because we’re like a big happy family,” Jordan said.

Jordan, who is an agriculture business major, is in her final year of cheering and gets to spend it with her little sister alongside her throughout the season.

“It’s heartwarming to have my sister here with me because we get to experience college cheerleading together and since I’m now a captain, I get to show her the ropes and we’re enjoying every minute of it,” Jordan said.

Jordan recalled her favorite memory of college cheering and pumping up the crowd at the University of Southern Mississippi as the Braves played the Golden Eagles in 2019 during her first game performance.

Fans can catch Jordan this Saturday as ASU host Arkansas Pine Bluff at 6 p.m.

Jayln’s road to ASU:

Beginning her cheering journey at the Vicksburg YMCA, Jayln took the same rout as her big sister and cheered throughout high school and signed with Alcorn State after graduating from VHS in 2022.

“It’s definitely a family out here and I always wanted to go to a HBCU and my big sister is here which makes it all better,” Jayln said.

Jayln recently got her first experience of college cheering with Jordan a couple of weeks ago when Alcorn played Stephen F. Austin.

“It rained a lot but I still enjoyed it because we love our HBCU and we look forward to cheering them on every Saturday,” Jayln said.

Jayln is fresh into college cheering, but her fondest memories of cheering is dancing to the band routine on the team in high school, especially during homecoming.

Both sisters got to cheer with each other for one year at VHS and they now are cheering with each other in Jordan’s final year.

“We’re the closest sisters you’ll ever meet and I wouldn’t wish to be spending this year with anyone else,” Jayln said.

Jordan and Jayln bring a lot of cheer experience to Alcorn’s roster and put on a show every weekend cheering on the football team.

Both will be back in action this Saturday.

Jordan and Jayln are the daughters of Marcus and LaSandra Davis.
