VICKSBURG, MS — On Friday, September 2nd, United Way of West Central Mississippi will launch its 2011 annual campaign (themed Hands Across our Communities), at which time representatives will announce this year’s campaign goal of $1,400,000. Last year’s campaign, led by Robyn Lea of State Farm Insurance, raised over 1.4 million dollars for our communities, which were used to help United Way and its agencies to increase the number of students to graduate, help more families become financially stable, and increase the number of healthy youth and adults, among other programs. “This year, United Way of West Central Mississippi and the 2011 Campaign Cabinet members are asking Vicksburg to increase not only their giving, but also to consider becoming a volunteer. We feel that this can be done, because the people of Vicksburg always show such incredible generosity and commitment to helping others,” said Lauren Garrick, Director of Marketing. “During these difficult economic times, it’s more important now than ever for companies and their team members to give back to their communities to help create economic growth and prosperity,” said Barbara Tolliver, Executive Director. “I continue to be amazed by the incredible dedication and compassion that Vicksburg shows by generously investing their time, energy, and personal financial resources in the community.” Tami Milazzo, Director of Community Investments says, “One of the greatest strengths of United Way is the care it takes with each and every donation. In an effort to advance the common good for all in the areas of education, income, and health, the funds raised are distributed to meet the community’s most critical needs. Proceeds from the 2011 campaign will serve our 21 agencies and their programs.” Campaign Kick-off, sponsored by Ameristar Casino, B & K Bank, Cooper Lighting, International Paper and RiverHills Bank, will be held on September 2 at 11:30 A.M. at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center (1302 Adams Street, Vicksburg, MS). Please RSVP to the United Way office at 601-636-1733. No walk-ins please.]]]]> ]]>
