United Way’s 71st Day of Caring happening today
The United Way of West Central Mississippi’s Day of Caring has been a part of our community for 71 years.
The Day of Caring is a way for those in our community to “care for the community” by getting involved with various service projects coordinated by the United Way of West Central MS. Over 188 volunteers will be deployed throughout the community, participating in projects that range from labeling books being distributed to all third-grade students to painting and renovating. It’s truly a day to care for our community.
“It’s an opportunity to bring volunteers together and do things to help the community. Some will be painting, some will be labeling books, and some will be sorting out closets; you name it!” said the United Way’s Executive Director Michele Connelly. “About 200 plus volunteers have stepped up from different businesses and individuals who truly want to make a difference.”

Warren County Supervisor Kelle Barfield said, “The world today is so full of bad news, we are aware the world is broken; the needs are great. These are people willing to fill those needs. But I always say if there’s not a crack, there’s no way for our light to shine. And so what these people are doing is sharing a smile, sharing a talent and helping our community to see that while the needs are great, so is the love and support for one another.”
