Wednesday, the Warren County Election Commission released an updated vote tally for the Nov. 3 General Election.

Included in the tally are voting machine, curbside and absentee ballots. Commission chair Sara Carlson Dionne indicated that affidavit ballots are still in process.

A few surprises emerged from the update. One of them is that as of Wednesday, the Democratic candidates won in the races for national offices. Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mike Espy and former Vice President Joe Biden all received more votes than their Republican opponents. In the race for president, for example, of 21,630 total votes cast for President Donald Trump and his challenger Biden, Trump received 10,788 and Biden 10,851. Biden won the county by a small margin of 63 votes.

Those totals may shift again before all the votes are counted. Dionne indicated earlier this week that the commission had a few hundred affidavit ballots to process. The final, provisional total should be available Friday. That total will go to the secretary of state’s office for certification.
