USACE opens Steele Bayou gates

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announced on its Facebook page at around 12:30 p.m.that it has opened the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure today, Sunday, Feb. 2.
District engineers and technical experts determined that conditions were favorable for the gates to be opened. The gates had been closed since Jan. 14 due to high water on the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
The district continues to monitor the forecast and the condition of its flood control works and collaborate with its local, state and federal partners.
