USACE Vicksburg District resumes collection of recreation area fees
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will resume the collection of fees at its recreation sites’ day use areas beginning Thursday, Oct. 1.
Fee collections were suspended earlier this year when recreation areas were closed due to COVID-19 precautions. The USACE Vicksburg District has collected camping fees through online reservations at www.recreation.gov and will continue this system across its projects in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Fee collections will continue at day use recreation areas and for special use permits, which cover events, facilities and activities. For more information on recreation fees and passes, visit https://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Passes.aspx.
USACE has also announced a seven-month extension for the expiration of America the Beautiful annual passes that applies to USACE projects only. To renew a pass, contact the nearest field office. Phone numbers for each project are available by site at https://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/.
USACE began gradually reopening lake and river projects in April. Visitors are encouraged to contact USACE field offices before visiting to ensure recreation areas are open. The status of USACE-managed campgrounds, boat ramps, swimming beaches and other sites is available at https://corpslakes.erdc.dren.mil/visitors/status.cfm.
Recreation visitors are encouraged to practice social distancing and other COVID-19 safety precautions required and recommended by local, state and federal authorities, to include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC guidance on visiting parks and recreation facilities can be found online at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/visitors.html.
