USACE Vicksburg signs agreement with Clinton for water system rehabilitation
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District signed a Project Partnership Agreement with the City of Clinton, Mississippi, Friday, Aug. 21 as part of the Mississippi Environmental Infrastructure Program (Section 592).
The PPA will rehabilitate Clinton’s water system, including the refurbishment of a 1-million-gallon elevated water storage tank, and implement a variety of improvements such as the installation of tank mixing equipment and replacement of water mains.
Authorized by the Water Resources Development Act of 1999, the Section 592 Program aids non-federal interests in Mississippi. Assistance can include design and construction for water-related environmental infrastructure, as well as resource protection and development projects. According to PPA regulations, assistance may be provided only for projects that are publicly owned, and the non-federal interest must enter into a written cost share agreement to furnish its required cooperation for the project. The cost share for this project will be 75% federally funded and 25% non-federally funded.
The signing ceremony was held at Clinton City Hall. Mayor Phil Fisher signed the agreement for the City, and USACE Vicksburg Commander Col. Robert Hilliard signed for USACE.
“This agreement provides the USACE Vicksburg District with the opportunity to help the City of Clinton sustain and protect its infrastructure,” Hilliard said. “The Vicksburg District is proud to continue its long, mutually beneficial relationship with the City of Clinton, and we are eager to provide our assistance for this vital effort.”
