UTV driver chased by law enforcement from Yazoo to Hwy 80
A chase that started in Yazoo on Highway 3 ended with an arrest on Highway 80.
Reports indicated that a Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper approached a vehicle in Yazoo that was occupied by a man who appeared to be sleeping. Following procedure, the trooper ran the license plate and it came back that the vehicle owner had a felony warrant for larceny. At some point, the suspect fled from the trooper, ditched his vehicle and stole a UTV. He then led troopers on a chase from Yazoo County, down Highway 3 into Warren County. He continued on Hwy 3 to Hwy 61 North and proceeded south on Hwy 61, driving in the northbound lanes with a large contingent of law enforcement, including Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies, following. Most of the law enforcement vehicles were in the southbound lane. Law enforcement had him cornered at Circle K on 61 N but he was able to elude law enforcement and get on I-20 West. From there the UTV cut across the median at Clay Street and headed towards Hwy 80 East. He drove behind AirGas and back out onto Hwy 80 where he was successfully stopped before reaching Pear Orchard.
Vicksburg Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the pursuit.
The suspect is facing multiple felony charges in addition to the larceny warrant.
