Vehicle crashes through gates and onto Old Highway 80 Bridge

A medical event may have caused a driver to crash through gates and onto the Old Highway 80 Bridge, according to Herman Smith with the Bridge Commission.

At around 11 a.m., a vehicle crashed through the front gate, past the security guard, through another gate and onto the bridge.

According to witnesses, the person appeared to have stopped, gotten out of the vehicle and attempted to get back into the vehicle when workers on the bridge were able to stop him.

Police quickly responded to the scene and it appears the incident may have been related to a medical event.
