Vehicle overturns on Clay after attempting to flee from police

A green Mustang with multi-colored stripes overturned after attempting to flee from Vicksburg Police officers.
Just after 12:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, Lt. Nailor with the Vicksburg Police Department spotted the standout Mustang pass him at Clay and Hope streets. The driver of the Mustang, Roderick Montgomery, no age given, saw Nailor look at him, and “…that’s when he hit it,” said Nailor in reference to Montgomery racing away. Montgomery was wanted on several outstanding warrants according to Nailor.
Nailor got on his radio and asked if any units were in the area and got an immediate response from a patrol unit at Clay and Old 27 who had just seen the Mustang pass him. That unit turned to get behind the Mustang and initiate a stop, but before he could the Mustang left the roadway on the Clay east exit to Clay Street and overturned.
“His tires are bald. He tried to get onto Clay east going towards 27 but his tires were so bald he lost control,” explained Nailor. The Mustang failed to negotiate the turn east onto Clay at the interstate. He left the roadway, went down the embankment and overturned, landing in the westbound lanes of Clay at the entrance ramp onto I-20 East.
Montgomery was awake and aware but uncommunicative with the officers and first responders.
