[Edit: The headline was updated to reflect John Terry, Jr. is a third generation firefighter]
Following in the footsteps of his father before him, John Terry, Jr. was promoted to Lieutenant on Wednesday in a pinning ceremony at Vicksburg Fire Department.
Terry has been with the Vicksburg Fire Department since Dec. 20, 2017 where he has become a certified EMT and serves on Rescue.
At the pinning ceremony, his father presented Terry with a family heirloom jacket with patches and buttons added by himself and his uncle during their service.
“I’m very proud and very humbled,” his father, John Terry, Sr. said. “They are doing things now that we could only dream of. This department has grown tremendously since I left.”
Terry’s son, Larson, is also carrying on the family legacy at Vicksburg Fire Department by serving as an EMT stationed at the Central Fire Station.
“Larson, look at that room,” Terry told his son with a gesture. “Just remember, everything you do in that room, your father, grandfather and great uncle have done before you.”
