Vicksburg High School baseball player Braylon Green signed a collegiate scholarship to Southern University at New Orleans. He chose SUNO over Arkansas Baptist University.

“They began looking at me at the beginning of the season and Coach Willis set everything up but I saw how they worked so I wanted to be a part of that,” Green said.

Since the age of four, Green has been swinging a baseball bat and he now sees his hard work finally paying off. His breakout season came in 2023 as a junior when he finished with a .465 batting average, seven doubles, and 25 stolen bases.

Braylon played most of his varsity years under former VHS Head Coach Antonio Calvin where the Gators won back-to-back district titles in 2022 and 2023.

“It was good because we got to experience that but the fact that we lost in the playoffs didn’t sit well with me,” Green added.

In 2024, the centerfielder played under Head Coach Kent Willis who led VHS to the first round of the playoffs. He ended his senior year with over a .450 batting average and only striking out six times.

Thinking back on his time on the baseball field, Green joked about the time he was struck with a baseball just after Coach Calvin yelled for him to slide.

“It was good and bad but mostly funny because he told me to slide, slide, slide,” Braylon joked.

Now that varsity baseball has officially come to an end for Green, he is all set to be a student-athlete at SUNO.

“I’m very excited because this will be a new experience for me and I’ve been waiting on this for a while, he said. “I want to first thank God and I also want to give a shoutout to Coach Calvin, my family, friends, coaches, and teammates.”
