Vicksburg High School got their second win of the season on Friday in a 54-8 victory over Forest Hill.

“I was happy we played from start to finish and we really played aggressive football tonight,” Head Coach Todd McDaniel said. We’re getting more comfortable throwing the football and that’s always something good to see.”

The Gators threw a deep pass on their first possession where Ronnie Alexander hit Kedarius Sims on a big gain. After Johnny Smith picked up some nice yards on a run, Alexander then threw a nine-yard touchdown to Tyler Henderson.

Vicksburg’s defense proved that they came to play as Dennis Battle would catch an interception just shortly after the Gators scored. They ended up finishing a 37-yard drive after DeCorey Knight Jr got a eight-yard touchdown run. Knight also caught the two-point conversion.

KeArris Gilliam caught a pick 6 late in the first quarter for 65 yards that gave VHS a 20-0 lead. The Gators would soon go up 28-0 after a short run by Malik Montgomery who ran behind Dareh Minor who was the trapping guard.

The defense for VHS would continue to hold their own in the second quarter as Tyler Carter sacked the quarterback easily.

Montgomery and Knight both continued to pick up some good positive runs along with Smith that eventually set up a 30-yard touchdown from Alexander to Knight as VHS went up 34-0.

A bad punt would give VHS good field possession that set up a 49-yard touchdown run by Alex Jefferson. A 85-yard punt return from Henderson was called back due to penalty.

With 21 seconds left in the half, Mincer Minor IV scored on a short run to put the score at 46-0.

Coming out of halftime, the game was on a running clock but Forest Hill eventually found their way into the end zone.

The Gators got the final touchdown after a 39-yard touchdown from Jefferson and a two-point conversion thrown by Mikey Johnson.

VHS (2-2) will travel to Jim Hill on Friday.
