VHS comes in second overall at North State Powerlifting meet

The Vicksburg High School powerlifting team traveled to Lafayette High School in Oxford, Miss., on Friday to compete in the North State Powerlifting meet.

The Gators had many lifters who came in from first to third place to advance to state finals in the incoming weeks.

Overall, the Gators finished in second place as they lifted against schools such as Lafayette County, Saltillo, Holmes, West Point, Center Hill, Provine, Lafayette County, Cleveland Central, Neshoba Central and Grenada.

VHS powerlifting results:

• Michael Montgomery came in second place in the 308+ class and broke a North State record with a 405-pound bench press.
• Channing Adams won first place in the 181-pound weight class.
• Lucius Chambers IV won first place in 165-pound weight class and set a North State record with a 535-pound squat.
• Cedric Phillips won second place in the 165-pound weight class
• Ramone Brown placed third in the 148-pound class.
• Quinton Rowan placed third in the 132-pound class.
• Cameron Smith placed third in the 114-pound class.
