VHS freshman team defeated WC 16-6 on Tuesday
Vicksburg High School ninth grade football team grabbed a 16-6 win over Warren Central on Tuesday night.
The Gators came out pounding the ball in the run game with JT Gaines, Hester, and Jadarius Henderson. VHS held possession of the ball for most of the first quarter until punting it to WC.
The Vikings came out running the ball as well with Teryn Green as he picked up 20 yards on a run. WC quickly got in the end zone from a 30-yard scramble from Green.
Green would also catch a interception in the first half.
VHS continued to run the ball well in the first half but couldn’t find their way into the end zone. They would soon get on the board from a blocked punt that resulted in a safety to put the score at 6-2.
Coming out of halftime, VHS meant serious business as their run game increased throughout the night.
With thirty seconds left in the third quarter, quarterback Mikey Johnson rolled out to the left and threw a 35-yard pass to Daquan Warfield to the one-yard line. Henderson took it in for the short touchdown run on the next play to give VHS a 8-6 lead.
The Gator defense stepped up as well in the fourth quarter with Henderson putting a hard hit on the ball carrier as VHS forced a turnover on the 15-yard line.
Gaines picked up 14 yards on the next play to put VHS on the one-yard line to setup a short touchdown run by Henderson. Johnson scrambled out to the right for the successful two-point conversion to give VHS a 16-6 lead.
The Gator defense continued to make big plays as Hester came up with a sack and Gaines with a pass deflections. Marcus Felix also picked up a sack in the fourth quarter which was his second on the night.
VHS maintained their lead and took home the big win.
