Plenty of questionable penalties on Thursday night left Vicksburg High School football team falling to Holmes County Central 14-12.

Flags were thrown left and right against the Gators which resulted in touchdowns and turnovers being In favor of the Jaguars.

Johnny Smith’s touchdown was called back due to a holding penalty which would have given VHS the win. The Gators’ Jaleel Fleming also caught a pick and took it to the goal line but it was backed up to midfield due to another penalty.

Malik Montgomery helped VHS get on the board with a 65 yard touchdown run and Smith also scored.

“I’m proud of the way our kids played this entire year we’ve had to fight several up hill battles throughout the year but this hill was a task to tall for anyone and to climb,” head coach Todd McDaniel said. “I’m extremely disappointed in the professionalism of our officiating staff that created a environment not conducive for high school athletics.”

The loss puts VHS at a 6-4 record on the year but they will still host a playoff game on Friday against Cleveland Central.
